Job Description:
- Perform routine servicing, maintenance, and repairs on underground heavy-duty diesel equipment
(e.g. loaders, dump trucks, drilling rigs, bolters, compressors).
Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults using diagnostic tools and manuals.
Repair and overhaul engines, transmissions, braking systems, steering, and suspension components.
Maintain and repair hydraulic systems including pumps, valves, hoses, and cylinders.
Conduct preventative maintenance inspections in accordance with maintenance schedules.
Ensure compliance with underground safety, health, and environmental regulations.
Complete job cards, maintenance reports, and service records accurately.
Respond to equipment breakdowns in underground environments in a timely manner.
Work closely with operations teams to reduce equipment downtime.
Ensure proper use and care of tools, equipment, and workshop facilities.
Identify potential equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.
Assist in commissioning new or rebuilt equipment when required.
Qualification/Work Experience:
- Full Grade Twelve (Grade 12) Certificate.
Trade Certificate in Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanics or equivalent.
Minimum of 6 years experience working on heavy-duty diesel equipment, preferably underground.
Experience in mining or underground operations is a strong advantage.
Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, and basic auto-electrical systems(indicate machines worked on).
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong fault-finding and problem solving skills.
High level of safety awareness, especially in confined and underground environments.
Ability to work under pressure and in physically demanding conditions.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and on-call rotations.
Physically fit and medically fit for underground work.
Safety & Working Conditions:
Work is performed underground in confined, dusty, noisy, and low light environments.
Must comply with all mine safety procedures, including use of PPE.
May be required to work extended hours or emergency call-outs.
Desirable (Added Advantage):
Underground induction and valid mine safety certifications.
Experience with specific underground mining equipment brands.
Basic computer skills for maintenance reporting systems.
