The Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) has commanded a
Computer Science teacher in Mwinilunga for building a prototype radio station
using scrap materials, calling it a “remarkable display of local ingenuity.”
In media release, IBA Director of Corporate Communication,
Katendi Wandi praised the teacher’s use of technology to foster education and
community engagement, noting that such innovations can reduce the high costs
typically associated with setting up broadcasting infrastructure.
While the station is not yet licensed, the IBA confirmed it
has engaged the inventor and encouraged him to pursue formal registration under
the IBA Act.
she emphasized that operating without a license
remains a serious offence, but expressed its readiness to support innovators in
navigating the legal process.
“This initiative shows how creativity can bridge gaps in
access and participation,” said Wandi. “We stand ready to guide and support those who seek to serve
their communities through broadcasting.”
The IBA reiterated its commitment to fostering a pluralistic media landscape through fair and transparent regulation.
