Police in Southern Province have arrested a 26-year-old
man in connection with the murder of 31-year-old Stanley Sakala, driver to
independent parliamentary aspirant Confucius Mweene of Magoye East
Constituency.
Provincial Police Commanding Officer Moono Namalongo
confirmed the arrest, stating that Sakala was found dead inside his chalet at a
campaign camp in Chivuna Village during the early hours of Tuesday.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect was
the last person seen with the deceased before the incident.
“Officers who visited the scene found Mr. Sakala lying in
a pool of blood with a deep cut to his throat,” Mr. Namalongo said.
He added that the suspect is in police custody as
investigations continue, while the body has been deposited at Mazabuka General
Hospital Mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination.
