Police in Southern Province have arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with the murder of 31-year-old Stanley Sakala, driver to independent parliamentary aspirant Confucius Mweene of Magoye East Constituency.

Provincial Police Commanding Officer Moono Namalongo confirmed the arrest, stating that Sakala was found dead inside his chalet at a campaign camp in Chivuna Village during the early hours of Tuesday.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect was the last person seen with the deceased before the incident.

“Officers who visited the scene found Mr. Sakala lying in a pool of blood with a deep cut to his throat,” Mr. Namalongo said.

He added that the suspect is in police custody as investigations continue, while the body has been deposited at Mazabuka General Hospital Mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination.
