The Zambia Police Service in Mufulira District has
arrested a 32-year-old man, Wana Chambalu of Kitwe, in connection with the
assault of a Chinese national, an incident that was captured on video and
widely circulated on social media.
According to Provincial Police reports, the victim, Shao
Hong (46), a supervisor for the Mufulira–Mokambo Road construction project, was
attacked on June 28, 2026 at the AVIC International Camp Site along the
Mufulira–Mokambo Road.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the assault
occurred after Shao Hong administered breathalyser tests on tipper truck
drivers suspected of reporting late and consuming alcohol. Chambalu allegedly
became unruly and assaulted the supervisor by punching and kicking him, causing
bodily injuries.
The suspect has since been detained for the offence of
Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm (OABH).
Police strongly condemned all forms of violence, including workplace-related violence, and reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that all offenders are brought before the courts of law, regardless of nationality, occupation, or status.
