Government has revoked the restriction on night driving
for public service vehicles (PSVs), in a move aimed at facilitating the
implementation of the 24-hour economy.
This follows the issuance of Statutory Instrument No. 27
of 2026, which repeals Statutory Instrument No. 76 of 2016 that prohibited PSVs
from operating during night hours.
Transport and Logistics Minister Frank Tayali said the
decision takes immediate effect following Cabinet approval, as part of reforms
to enhance economic productivity and improve the movement of goods and
services.
“The removal of the restriction is part of broader
reforms to modernize the transport and logistics sector and ensure
uninterrupted operations across the country,” Mr. Tayali said.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Transport and Logistics Principal
Public Relations Officer Ernest Chanda assured that the ministry will continue
working with stakeholders to strengthen road safety awareness campaigns and
improve infrastructure to support safe night travel.
