Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet for Administration, Dr.
Oliver Kalabo, has called for sustained public education on the National
Pensions Scheme Act, 2026, to ensure citizens fully understand and benefit from
the progressive reforms introduced under the new legislation.
Speaking during the Africa Public Service Day
commemorations, Dr. Kalabo said the Act represents a significant step in
Government’s efforts to strengthen social security and improve retirement
protection for members across the country.
“Continued public engagement will enable citizens to better
appreciate the opportunities and benefits provided under the new law, including
measures aimed at expanding social security coverage and enhancing the
sustainability of pension benefits,” Dr. Kalabo stated.
He urged the Ministry to sustain momentum by reaching more
workers, employers, and retirees with information about the reforms.
Ministry of Labour and Social Security Principal Public
Relations Officer, Mwaka Ndawa, reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to
ensuring that information about the new Act is widespread, enabling citizens to
make informed decisions on early retirement preparations.
