The Zambia National Service (ZNS) is set to stage its first-ever
calisthenics display at the upcoming Zambia International Trade Fair (ZITF),
with Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff Major General Reuben Mwewa expressing
confidence in the troops’ readiness after an impressive review parade at Wilford
J. Funjika Training School.
Maj Gen Mwewa commended the soldiers for their discipline,
teamwork, and high morale, noting they had achieved in two weeks what had
originally been scheduled as a four-week training programme.
“I have seen the product and outcome of your two weeks of
rehearsal, a product I can confidently say was supposed to be achieved in four
weeks. But because of the zeal that you and your instructors have put in, you
have done it in just two weeks,” he said.
He described the troops’ coordination and synchronized
movements as highly impressive, attributing the success to exceptional teamwork
and alertness.
Maj Gen Mwewa reminded the soldiers not to become
complacent, stressing that their performance will be historic as it will be the
first calisthenics display ever staged at the Trade Fair since its inception in
1966.
“Don’t relax, because where you are going to display these
drills, they have never seen calisthenics performed in real time. It will be
the first time that the Copperbelt Province will witness such a display since
the Trade Fair began nearly 60 years ago,” he said.
He urged the contingent to refine the few areas needing improvement
and deliver a memorable performance that would inspire pride among the people
of the Copperbelt.
“You are history makers, and that understanding must give
you extra morale. You, the troops on parade today, will forever be remembered,”
Maj Gen Mwewa added.
