The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested a
secondary school teacher for alleged corrupt practices involving K90,000 in a
scheme linked to teacher recruitment under the Ministry of Education.
The suspect, Mr. Charles Mubita (30) of Kamwala South,
Lusaka, and a teacher at Robert Dean Secondary School, has been charged with
one count of Corrupt Practices by a Public Officer, contrary to Section 19(1)
of the Anti-Corruption Act, Chapter 91 of the Laws of Zambia.
Investigations revealed that between 1–15 June 2026,
Mubita allegedly solicited K90,000 from a complainant as an inducement to
secure employment for the complainant’s sister. He reportedly received K50,000
and later demanded an additional K40,000.
Acting on information received on 12 June 2026, the ACC
conducted an operation during which Mubita received K5,000 as part payment of
the balance, leading to his arrest.
The Commission has cautioned the public against paying
bribes for employment opportunities and warned individuals against exploiting
job seekers by soliciting payments under the pretext of facilitating
recruitment.
Mubita has since been released on police bond and is
expected to appear in court soon.
