A 35-year Zambia Police Protective Unit, Constable Emmanuel Tembo, e is on the run after allegedly stealing K622, 483 from Zanaco’s Civic Centre branch in Lusaka

The incident unfolded like a scene from a crime thriller. At approximately 17:13 hours, just as the bank was closing and preparing to hand over the day’s collections to a cash-in-transit team,

Tembo armed with a state-issued AK47 rifle entered the bulk room, snatched one of the sealed cash bags, and fled the scene, leaving stunned staff and security guards in his wake.

Despite attempts to chase him, Tembo reportedly used his Lilayi Police College training to evade capture.

Later that evening, a 24-year-old taxi driver, Misheck Shampande, reported a suspicious encounter at Shimabala Market.

He narrated that he had been approached by a man who handed him a black bag, paid 80 kwacha, and instructed him to deliver it to a police officer named “Mtonga” at Shimabala Toll Plaza. Upon arrival, Shampande learned that no such officer was stationed there and, sensing trouble, returned the bag to Shimabala Police Post.

Inside the bag, officers discovered An AK47 rifle (serial number ZAM 10825), A full paramilitary police uniform, neatly folded and A loaded magazine with 30 rounds.

The items have since been secured at Chilanga Police Station, and a docket of theft by public servant has been opened. A manhunt is underway for Tembo, who remains at large with the stolen funds.
