Lusaka District Commissioner Dr. Rosa Zulu has urged
marketeers in the district to continue promoting the spirit of social
interaction through community activities.
Speaking during the Youth Day sports games held at the National
Sports Development Centre (NASDEC) grounds, Dr. Zulu said activities that bring
people together help strengthen relationships and cooperation among traders.
She noted that such engagements motivate men and women to
participate in meaningful activities and help steer them away from negative
behaviours.
Meanwhile, Lusaka City Council Assistant Director for
Housing and Social Services Rubby Chandra thanked council staff and marketeers
for organizing the event, saying such initiatives promote unity and strengthen
working relationships within the community.
The sports event featured netball, football, and tug of
war competitions involving teams from Civic Center, Lumumba, and New Soweto
markets.
New Soweto defeated Civic Center 43–16, and Lumumba 32–5.
Lumumba later beat Civic Center 17–9.
Lumumba and New Soweto drew 0–0. New Soweto defeated
Civic Center 2–1, while Civic Center edged Lumumba 1–0.
Civic Center dominated, beating New Soweto 2–0 in men’s,
women’s, and combined categories.
The event attracted marketeers and council staff who
gathered to commemorate Youth Day through sports and social interaction,
reinforcing the importance of community unity.
