AB Bank Zambia has announced the appointment of Marcus
Hannappel as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective 1 July 2026,
marking the beginning of a new phase of leadership and growth.
Mr. Hannappel succeeds Maximo Mulenga, who is retiring after
years of dedicated service and significant contributions to the bank’s growth
and development.
The appointment was confirmed by the Shareholders and Board
of Directors, who described Hannappel as a highly experienced banking
professional with extensive expertise across African markets.
Board Chairperson Dr. Rolf Reichardt said Hannappel’s strong
track record in financial inclusion, digital transformation, and sustainable
growth positions him well to lead the bank into its next phase.
“His extensive experience in banking, digital financial
services and institutional development, coupled with his understanding of our
business and strategic direction, positions him well to lead the Bank into its
next phase of growth,” Reichardt stated.
Reflecting on his tenure, outgoing CEO Maximo Mulenga said
leading the institution had been a rewarding experience and expressed
confidence in the bank’s future.
Mr. Hannappel, who previously served on the Board of
Directors of AB Bank Zambia, said he was honoured to take on the role at a time
when financial services are evolving rapidly.
“The Bank has built a strong foundation and a clear purpose,
empowering individuals, entrepreneurs and businesses through accessible
financial solutions,” Hannappel said.
He added that he looks forward to strengthening customer
relationships, driving innovation, and building lasting value for communities.
AB Bank Zambia emphasised that the leadership transition
reflects its continued focus on deepening customer engagement, supporting
entrepreneurs and businesses, advancing innovation, and delivering long-term
social and economic impact.
