The National Health Insurance Management Authority
(NHIMA) has reassured members that access to healthcare services will continue
without disruption, following reports that a private clinic intends to withdraw
from the scheme.
In a statement, NHIMA Head of Public Relations King
Syacika dismissed claims circulating on social media suggesting that private
healthcare facilities are withdrawing services due to non-payment.
“We have not received any such notifications from other
providers. In fact, numerous private facilities are actively seeking NHIMA
accreditation,” Syacika said.
NHIMA currently works with over 400 accredited healthcare
providers nationwide, including public, private, and faith-based institutions,
and continues to receive hundreds of applications from private facilities
seeking accreditation.
Syacika acknowledged that a few Lusaka-based private
facilities have been limiting the number of NHIMA patients attended to daily,
but said the Authority is engaging them to ensure fair access.
He added that these matters were discussed during a
meeting on 27 April 2026 between NHIMA management and the Healthcare Federation
of Zambia, aimed at strengthening collaboration and ensuring sustainable
healthcare delivery under the scheme.
NHIMA emphasized that the withdrawal of one private
facility should not cast doubt on the stability of the scheme, reaffirming its
commitment to affordable and quality healthcare for all Zambians.
