The Zambia Daily Mail has unveiled two major initiatives aimed at strengthening business sustainability and diversifying revenue streams through digital transformation and transport services.

The institution, wholly owned by the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), launched the rebranded Young Mail newspaper, website, and mobile application, alongside the introduction of the Daily Mail Express Bus Service, which will initially operate on the Lusaka–Solwezi route.

Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana said the initiatives demonstrate how public media institutions can adapt to a rapidly changing digital economy through innovation and diversification.

“The Young Mail platform is expected to deliver credible, engaging and accessible content tailored to young audiences, in line with Government efforts to promote youth participation in media and combat misinformation,” Kawana said.

He further noted that the Express Bus Service will improve newspaper distribution, strengthen courier and logistics operations, enhance connectivity along key routes, and create employment opportunities.

Board Chairperson Belly Dubeka explained that the initiatives form part of the organisation’s 2026–2030 Strategic Plan, which seeks to reposition Zambia Daily Mail within a competitive media landscape. He emphasized that innovation is now essential for survival, warning that institutions which fail to adapt risk being left behind.

Acting Managing Director Emelda Musonda said the redesigned Young Mail platform aims to promote a reading culture among young people through educational and inspirational content, targeting audiences aged 10 to 25 years.

She added that the Express Bus Service will strengthen the company’s revenue base and support long-term sustainability beyond traditional newspaper operations.
