Bank of Zambia Governor Dr. Denny Kalyalya has urged stronger collaboration among Government, mining firms, investors, and local communities to accelerate Zambia’s economic transformation and industrial growth.

Speaking at the official opening of the 2026 Copperbelt Agricultural, Mining, Industrial and Networking Expo (CAMINEX) in Kitwe, Dr. Kalyalya emphasized that agriculture and mining remain the backbone of Zambia’s economy, contributing significantly to employment creation, export earnings, and national development.

Held under the theme “Collaboration for Growth: Developing Talent, Trust and Trade”, the expo brought together key players from the mining, agricultural, and industrial sectors.

Dr. Kalyalya highlighted several policy reforms implemented by Government to improve investor confidence, enhance transparency, and promote local participation in the mining sector.

He noted that Zambia’s copper production rose from 825,000 metric tonnes in 2024 to over 890,000 metric tonnes in 2025, representing an 8 percent increase, driven by improved output from Konkola Copper Mines, Mopani Copper Mines, Kansanshi Mine, and Lubambe Copper Mine.

He also pointed to the ongoing high-resolution aerial geophysical survey across the country, aimed at unlocking Zambia’s mineral exploration potential and attracting further investment.

The Governor stressed the importance of reliable energy supply in supporting mining, agriculture, and industrialisation, noting that Government is investing in hydropower, solar, and other renewable energy sources to strengthen energy security.

Dr. Kalyalya further underscored the need for value addition and manufacturing, rather than exporting raw materials, to maximise economic benefits, create jobs, and improve livelihoods.

“Collaboration and responsible investment will position Zambia among Africa’s leading mining investment destinations,” he said, reaffirming Government’s commitment to a transparent, sustainable, and inclusive business environment.
