The Ministry of Labour and Social Security has successfully secured K276,623.46 in compensation for 27 employees of Canlin Investments Limited, a casino company operating at Lusaka International Apartment, following the abrupt suspension of its operations.
The company had initially informed staff that their final
working day would be 25 August 2025, but workers were shocked to find the
premises locked on 20 August, with a notice reading “business suspended for
rectification” and no payments made.
In response, the affected employees reported the matter to
the Ministry, prompting swift intervention by the Labour Commissioner’s office.
Management cooperated with officials, allowing Labour
Inspectors to calculate and process all outstanding dues, including monthly
salaries, gratuities, and accrued leave days.
In a statement Issued by Ministry of Labour and Social
Security Principal Public Relations Officer Mwaka Ndawa confirmed that all 27
workers have now received their full entitlements and commended them for
seeking lawful redress.
“This action underscores our unwavering commitment to
enforcing labour laws, protecting workers’ rights, and promoting fair labour
practices,” said Ndawa.
She also reminded employers to comply with Zambia’s labour laws and pledged continued efforts to foster industrial harmony and social justice in workplaces nationwide.
