Seed Co
Zambia has launched a new USSD platform
aimed at empowering farmers across the country, especially those in remote and rural areas with limited
internet access.
The service allows farmers to Browse
Seed Co’s seed varieties Receive
agronomic advice and Place orders directly from basic mobile phones
Seed Co Zambia’s Marketing Manager Grace Kalungu, emphasized the
company’s commitment to innovation and
accessibility:
“This USSD campaign represents our
promise to make technology work for every farmer, whether you’re in Lusaka,
Chipata, or a rural farming community in Muchinga.” She said.
Ms Kalungu underscore that the platform builds on Seed Co’s digital
journey, which began in 2021
with the launch of its online shop
a lifeline during the COVID-19 lockdown.
However, she noted that the online
service mainly benefited farmers with reliable internet, leaving many rural
growers excluded.
Ms Kalungu, added that to bridge this gap, the company developed the
*419# solution, ensuring that farmers
with basic mobile phones can now access vital agricultural services.
She concluded that the platform also supports data-driven decision-making, helping Seed Co tailor its offerings to farmers’ evolving needs.
