Zambia National Service (ZNS) Commander Lieutenant General Engineer Maliti Solochi II rallied newly recruited trainees under the Voluntary National Service Training Programme to embrace hard work, discipline, and patriotism as tools for national transformation.

In a stirring address at ZNS Chishimba Unit Echoing President Hakainde Hichilema’s mantra of “work after work and more work,” Lt Gen Solochi urged the youth to see themselves not merely as trainees, but as the “new generation of builders” tasked with elevating Zambia’s development to unprecedented heights.

“Love your country. Be selfish for Zambia. This is not just a training exercise it is the birth of a new generation of builders,” he declared.

The Commander praised President Hichilema’s personal commitment to youth empowerment, noting that the Head of State had sponsored 200 trainees with his own resources and dispatched Solochi to Tanzania and Egypt in 2022 to study successful national service models.

“The President has fought for this programme tooth and nail because he believes in you,” Solochi said. “His vision is a revolution in action.”

The programme, which began on 24 August 2025, equips young Zambians with life-sustaining skills in agriculture, entrepreneurship, and nationalism, enabling them to grow their own food and launch self-sustaining projects.

Lt Gen Solochi emphasized that graduates will be prioritized for recruitment into key national institutions and challenged trainees to become job creators, not job seekers.

“We want to make you feel shy to beg. You have two hands, two legs, ten fingers— you can work and build this country,” he stressed.

He also issued a strong warning against misconduct and inappropriate relationships, urging trainees to remain disciplined, focused, and morally upright throughout their training.

“No one should pressure you into doing anything inappropriate—whether willingly or against your will,” he cautioned.
