Police in Luapula Province have arrested a 43-year-old truck driver from
Lusaka for allegedly raping an 18-year-old woman on two occasions after
offering her a lift to Luwingu District.
According to Provincial Police Commanding Officer Mwala Yuyi confirmed
the arrest, stating that the incident occurred between Thursday night and early
Friday morning in Kawambwa District.
Mr Yuyi said the victim, of Maiteneke in Mansa District, had gone to Senama
market layby around 13:00 hours to hitchhike a vehicle heading to Luwingu.
The suspect, identified as Flady Mwape of Chibombo’s 15 Miles, offered
her a ride, explaining that he was delivering fertilizer in Kawambwa.
The two arrived in Kawambwa around 22:00 hours but spent the night in
the truck as the fertilizer was scheduled to be offloaded the following day.
Mr Yuyi underscored that Mwape allegedly assaulted the victim at 23:00
hours and again at 05:00 hours.
