The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested and charged Joe Nsokolo, a 40-year-old Management Accountant at the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA), for corruption involving more than K2.2 million.

According to ACC officials, Nsokolo of Rockfield, Lusaka, faces 40 counts of Theft by a Public Servant contrary to Section 265, read together with Section 277 of the Penal Code, and one count of Possession of Property Suspected to be Proceeds of Crime under the Forfeiture of Proceeds of Crime Act No. 19 of 2010.

Investigators allege that between January 1, 2022 and August 31, 2025, Nsokolo stole K2,263,106.61 from ZICA for personal gain.

The suspect has since been released on bond and is expected to appear in court soon.

The case has sent shockwaves through Zambia’s accounting fraternity, as ZICA is the body mandated to uphold professional standards in financial management. Observers say the allegations raise serious concerns about internal controls and accountability within professional institutions.

The ACC has reiterated its commitment to tackling corruption across all sectors, warning that no institution or individual is above the law. Civil society groups have called for stronger oversight mechanisms to prevent similar abuses, stressing that corruption undermines public trust and diverts resources away from national development.
