Police in Mwinilunga District, Northwestern Province have
arrested a 49-year-old businessman on allegations of defiling a 13-year-old
Grade Seven pupil of Kaputu compound.
According to Northwestern Province Police Commissioner
Brighton Siwale, the matter was reported by the victim’s mother, Rosa Kalala,
who alleged that the suspect, a close family friend, had taken advantage of his
relationship with the family to lure the child under the pretext of offering
access to online classes.
The incidents are said to have occurred between 14 and 23
September 2025, within Mwinilunga township.
Mr Siwale says Police investigations established that the
suspect allegedly diverted the girl to his farm on one occasion before
returning her home later.
“On 17 November 2025, the suspect, identified as Boldwin
Masumba of Kawiko area, reported himself to Mwinilunga Police Station after
being summoned.” He said.
He was formally charged with defilement and subsequently
released on police bond, pending court appearance.
Commissioner Siwale confirmed that the matter has been
registered and will proceed to court. He stressed that police are committed to
ensuring justice is served and urged the public to allow due process to take
its course.
Mwinilunga, has hence
forth call for stronger community vigilance and protection of minors. Civil
society groups have reiterated the importance of safeguarding children from
exploitation, particularly in environments where trust and familiarity can be
abused.
