Tanzania–Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) is set for Thursday,
with President Hakainde Hichilema and Chinese Premier Li Qiang expected to
officiate.
Speaking at State House, President Hichilema underscored the
immense significance of the project, noting that TAZARA remains as vital today
as it was in the 1970s when it symbolised solidarity among Zambia, China, and
Tanzania.
“The revitalisation of TAZARA demonstrates the longstanding
friendship between Zambia, China and Tanzania, as envisioned by the founding
fathers of the three nations,” President Hichilema said.
The President tasked the team overseeing the revitalisation to
design additional projects that harness the resource potential along the TAZARA
corridor, positioning it as a driver of regional trade and industrialisation.
He expressed satisfaction that the China Railway Construction
Corporation (CRCC) is incorporating the development of the Kapiri Mposhi Dry
Port, which he described as crucial to Zambia’s economic growth agenda.
President Hichilema also invited CRCC to consider Zambia’s energy-generation
needs, citing the firm’s extensive expertise in infrastructure and power
projects.
