President Hakainde Hichilema has reiterated his
administration’s commitment to creating jobs and improving livelihoods,
stressing that employment remains central to Zambia’s economic transformation
agenda.
Speaking on the Government’s focus, the Head of State said
the country has embraced a single-mindedness to work hard and work smart, with
the goal of offering opportunities that uplift families and communities.
“That one job will feed eight family members. Just one
job—that’s our agenda to create employment,” President Hichilema said.
The President emphasised that job opportunities under his
administration are based on citizenship and skills, not regional or political
affiliation.
“You don’t have to belong to a particular province to have
jobs. We have moved from exclusions to inclusions. The only qualification to
get a job under my administration is to be a citizen with necessary skills,” he
said.
Highlighting progress in the mining sector, President
Hichilema noted that Mopani Copper Mines has employed 2,700 workers without
declaring anyone redundant, underscoring the Government’s efforts to balance
industrial growth with job security.
The President acknowledged that in the past, securing jobs
in the public sector was difficult, but since his administration came into
office, vacancies have been openly advertised to ensure transparency and
fairness.
He reaffirmed that the Government’s employment agenda is
designed to Create stable careers across sectors, empower families and
communities through income security and Promote inclusivity by eliminating
regional and political barriers to opportunity
