The Internet Society Zambia Chapter has raised alarm over
continued mobile network disruptions, urging the Zambia Information and
Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) to take stronger action against
operators.
Chapter President Levy Syanseke said persistent failures
affecting calls, SMS, and data services are undermining confidence in the digital
economy.
He stressed that poor connectivity is costing businesses
money and frustrating consumers who rely on mobile services for daily
transactions.
Syanseke noted that operators can no longer justify the
disruptions, particularly since power supply has stabilised for over a month.
The Internet Society Zambia Chapter is demanding that ZICTA rein
in mobile operators and enforce compliance with service quality standards.
The appeal highlights growing frustration among consumers
and businesses over network reliability.
Persistent disruptions threaten Zambia’s ambitions to build
a robust digital economy, where mobile connectivity underpins e-commerce,
mobile money, and online services.
Analysts warn that without stronger regulatory oversight,
Zambia risks losing ground in regional competitiveness.
