Government and public service unions have concluded salary
negotiations, resulting in a 700 kwacha across-the-board increase in monthly basic
salaries for public service employees.
In a statement issued to the media states that Monthly basic salary has Increased by 700 kwacha for all public service workers and Meal allowance: Raised from K150 to K175 per day.
The revised salaries and allowances take effect retroactively
from first January 2026.
The agreement was jointly announced by Permanent Secretary,
Public Service Management Division (PSMD), Lois Mulube, representing the
Government Bargaining Team.
President of the Civil Servants and Allied Workers Union of
Zambia, Joy Beene, representing the Unions Bargaining Team.
Government and unions have agreed to continue discussions on
outstanding administrative matters relating to conditions of service.
The negotiations are part of efforts to improve salaries,
welfare, and working conditions for Zambia’s public service workforce.
The increment is expected to boost morale and productivity
among public service workers.
Labour experts note that while the adjustment provides
immediate relief, sustained improvements will depend on long-term reforms in
wage structures, financing, and efficiency in public service delivery.
The move also reflects government’s balancing act between fiscal
constraints and worker welfare, especially as Zambia works towards stabilizing
its economy.
