Goods worth thousands have been destroyed after a fire swept
through Yong Fa Dragon Mart in Chingola Town Centre in the early hours of
today.
Copperbelt Province Police Commanding Officer Mwala Yuyi
confirmed the incident, saying it was reported to Chingola Central Police at
02:20 hours by an anonymous caller. Police officers rushed to the scene and
found the shop engulfed in flames.
The fire brigade was quickly summoned and managed to quench
the blaze, which had already spread to the adjacent Garnet’s Garage and Auto
Shop. While the fire has been fully extinguished, assorted property in both
shops was destroyed, with the value yet to be determined.
Mr. Yuyi said the cause of the fire remains unknown, and an
inquiry file has been opened to investigate the incident. He added that a swift
response by the fire brigade prevented further damage to surrounding
businesses. Importantly, no casualties were reported.
