The Ministry of Community Development and Social Services
has urged newly appointed board members of the Zambia Agency for Persons with
Disabilities (ZAPD) to uphold strong governance, accountability, and
collaboration in delivering inclusive services.
Permanent Secretary Ms. Angela Kawandami, in a speech
delivered on her behalf by Director of Social Welfare Mr. Morris Moono during
the ZAPD Board induction meeting, emphasized the importance of understanding
roles and responsibilities.
She described the induction as a vital platform to equip
members with knowledge of the Agency’s mandate, governance structures, and
legal framework.
Ms. Kawandami stressed that effective leadership depends on
transparency, accountability, and teamwork, noting that ZAPD plays a critical
role in promoting inclusion and protecting the rights of persons with
disabilities.
“The board’s leadership will be key to strengthening service
delivery,” she said.
Meanwhile, Board Chairperson Mr. Sylvester Katontoka
reaffirmed the board’s commitment to integrity and high standards of corporate
governance.
He stated that the induction had enhanced their
understanding of responsibilities and reinforced the need to serve with
diligence and selflessness.
“The decisions we make today must strengthen ZAPD for
generations to come and improve the lives of persons with disabilities across
Zambia,” Katontoka said.
