An accountant and a pharmacist at the Ministry of Health have appeared in the Lusaka Magistrates Court charged with theft by public servant involving over K400,000 belonging to Government.

The accused, Friday Ndawa (48) and Richard Chomba (43), face charges under Sections 272 and 277 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Of the offence allege that between January 1 and December 30, 2021, the two, while employed in public service, jointly and acting together, stole K414,270, property of Government, which came into their possession by virtue of their employment.

The court heard that the alleged offence was committed in Lusaka, where both accused were serving in the Ministry of Health at the time. Ndawa and Chomba denied the charge when they appeared before Magistrate Nthandose Chabala.

The prosecution alleges that the funds were misappropriated over nearly a year, during which the accused held positions granting them direct access to public resources.

The matter has been set down for trial, with hearing scheduled to commence on June 12, 2026.
