The Forestry Department has issued a strong warning to all
stakeholders in Zambia’s forest sector, following a High Court ruling that led to the forfeiture of assets belonging to Sena Plus Investments Limited, a company found guilty of violating
forestry and financial regulations.
Speaking in Lusaka, Chief Forestry Officer Dr. Fredd Siangulube
emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting Zambia’s forests and enforcing compliance with environmental and economic laws.
“Criminal activities such as illegal
logging and the unlawful transportation of logs will not be tolerated. The law
will catch up with those involved,” Dr. Siangulube stated.
He urged concessionaires and timber transporters to operate strictly within
the law, warning that continued violations could lead to revoked licences, asset seizures, and criminal prosecution.
The Sena Plus case, which involved the seizure of over 2,000 logs and heavy machinery, was praised as a model of inter-agency coordination between the National Prosecution Authority, Forestry Department, and the Department of National Parks and Wildlife.
Dr. Siangulube echored citizen vigilance and sector-wide cooperation to preserve Zambia’s natural heritage, reinforcing the government’s stance against environmental degradation and illegal resource exploitation
