National Service (ZNS) Commander Lieutenant General Maliti Solochi
has ordered the immediate deployment of ZNS personnel to begin road rehabilitation works
in Northern Province.
The directive follows mounting concerns over the deteriorating state of key
road networks and the inability of local councils to meet
growing infrastructure demands.
Speaking during a courtesy call to the provincial minister’s office, Lt Gen
Solochi assured the administration of ZNS’s readiness to act.
“The command is ready to work with the constituencies through the Provincial
Administration. We have the expertise, and we are moving in immediately,”
Solochi stated.
The Chambeshi
ring road in Mungwi District has been earmarked as the first
project under this urgent rollout. The intervention aligns with the presidential directive
to accelerate national development through infrastructure, food security,
and water
investment.
Lt Gen Solochi also emphasized the importance of realigning ZNS officers
with value-adding
tasks in agriculture and construction to maximize the impact of
public investment.
Northern
Province Minister Leonard Mbao welcomed the ZNS intervention,
calling it a timely
response to a growing crisis. He revealed that several feeder roads
remain in disrepair, and a critical bridge connecting Nsama and Kaputa
districts has collapsed, cutting off farmers from key markets.
“The CDF is available, and many councils have equipment, but we face serious backlogs. We need the capacity ZNS brings to get the job done quickly and properly,” Mbao said.
