Ahead of the World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) commemorations scheduled for 14 March 2026 at Mukuyu Tree in Kabwe, the National Organising Committee (NOC) together with the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) paid courtesy calls on the Deputy Permanent Secretary for Central Province, Mr. Godfrey Chitambala, and the District Commissioner for Kabwe, Mr. Lennox Shimwambwa.

Deputy Permanent Secretary Chitambala emphasized the importance of institutions that provide products and services to consumers, noting their critical role in driving the economy. District Commissioner Shimwambwa expressed delight at the NOC’s presence, highlighting the vital role of institutions that safeguard consumer rights.

NOC Chairperson Kings Syachika explained that the decision to host this year’s commemorations in Kabwe, rather than Lusaka, was intended to ensure inclusivity and spread awareness of the theme: “Safe Products, Confident Consumers.”

Mr. Chitambala welcomed the move, stressing that Mukuyu Tree provides a central and accessible venue for the public.

He encouraged the team to use local languages in community engagements to ensure the message reaches a wider audience.

In the run-up to the event, the Commission and NOC conducted awareness activities, including a live radio programme on Spice Radio and outreach visits to school clubs at Chindwin A Secondary School and Stephen Luwisha Girls Secondary School.

These engagements sensitized communities on consumer rights and the importance of safe products.

Institutions represented in the NOC included ZICTA and NHIMA, with more stakeholders expected to participate in exhibitions during the main commemorative event.
