Mopani Copper Mines has awarded a 12 percent salary increase
to all its employees following the successful conclusion of collective
bargaining talks with mine unions.
National Union of Miners and Allied Workers (NUMAW)
President Saul Simujika welcomed the increment, noting that while unions had
hoped for a higher adjustment, they are satisfied with the outcome.
Simujika emphasized that the deal represents progress for
workers, with employees set to receive salary increments of over one thousand
kwacha across the board.
The increment is expected to boost worker morale and
household incomes, especially in mining communities where Mopani remains a
major employer.
Analysts note that wage adjustments in the mining sector
often ripple into local economies, strengthening purchasing power and
supporting small businesses.
The agreement also reflects the importance of collective
bargaining in balancing worker welfare with industry sustainability.
